Edinburgh Tours
Day Trip from Edinburgh to Loch Lomond. Explore the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and the impressive mountains, lochs and castles of Argyll and the West Highlands.
Highlights
- Doune Castle (optional visit)
- Callander, gateway to the Highlands
- Loch Katrine
- the Trossachs National Park
- Loch Lomond
- Optional Cruise
Departing Edinburgh and heading north via Stirling, we enjoy views of Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument as we drive to Doune and stop for an optional tour of the medieval Doune Castle* (as featured in the famous Monty Python Film, the Holy Grail). This is a stunning castle which oozes history and guarantees to leave you gob-smacked!
After around an hour to explore the Castle we then make our way to the Highlands, after stopping to pick-up some lunch, and explore the stunning Trossachs National Park, home to gorgeous Lochs and magnificent mountains. Then we head for the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and spend time taking in panoramic views of what is arguably Scotland’s most beautiful loch. We have loads of time to explore: Take an optional** cruise on the Loch, walk along the banks, or simply relax and spend time exploring the Loch Lomond Shores complex.
We then make our way back to Edinburgh, arriving in the early evening.
Optional tour of Doune Castle
Built for the Regent Albany, Doune Castle is a magnificent late 14th century courtyard castle. Its most striking feature is the 100ft high gatehouse which includes the splendid Lord's Hall with its musicians' gallery, double fireplace and carved oak screen. The tour includes an excellent audio guide narrated by Terry Jones, who starred in the movie, featuring some special insights into the making of the film as well as the history of the castle itself.
Tickets cost approx £4 for adults, £3 for seniors and £2 for Children, including a free audio guide in multiple languages.
Loch Lomond Cruise option
A cruise on the Loch is by far the best way to explore the area and discover what makes it so magical. With panoramic views of the Loch, shadowed by towering peaks of the southern highlands, this is a great way to see the Loch whatever the weather (boats have indoor areas (and a bar) for when the weather is more ‘traditional’). Cruise duration is 1 hour. You can purchase your cruise ticket at the time booking or from your guide on the day.
Tickets cost approx £7 for adults/seniors and £4 for Children (under 12), allowing you to board immediately on arrival without having to queue (stand in line).
